February 19, 2011, I am calling the Jerry Brown, Governor of California, collage finished. With the exception of a couple of newspaper clipping quotes from his speeches, it is composed almost entirly of Sacramento Magazine shreds.

More accomplished on Jerry Brown since last night even if it is not real obvious. More grey magazine paper from Sacramento Magazine to represent granite on El Capitan as well as the mountain behind Brown's head. The work is starting to aquire the "Mount Brown effect I am aiming at as a quote on Mount Rushmore.

The Yosemite Valley is taking shape from scraps of Sacramento Magazine. Sacramento arts promoter Brenda Waters is sending me some speech material to include in the collage. I have not determined how I will incorporate the speech material. Maybe in the lower left corner where I am going to include CA in red block letters, or maybe hanging from a banner held up by a hot air balloon.

More progress on Gov. Brown. I am starting to set the colors for all of the background features, here, the mountains and forground forests to make sure I get the desired contrasts and overall depth in the picture.Sacramento Magazines are the source for all of the magazine shreds.

Here is my new completed work for a lady who commisioned me to depict herself with her husband and cat. Car and Driver magazines as well as Strad magazines were the sources for the magazine shreds.

In the background of the Gov. Brown collage, a Yosemite mountain takes shape using slivers of violet to violet- gray paper. Oriented vertically, an illusion of the granite cliffs will be created. Actual slivers of paper showing foliage are being minced up and used to create the forests.

The background valley and mountais are slowly taking shape. I tend to fill in the whole in blotches rather than working from point to prevent me from not being able to find more of a required color. A red "CAL" in block letters will be placed under the bear.

Another new work taking shape. A commision by a lady of herself, her husband and cat. Among other things, she plays the fiddle, and her husband is a car enthusiest. Thus, Strad magazine and Car and Driver magazine are the sources for the magazine shreds. I have just replaced the image with an improvment on the likness of the lady, which will recieve further improvment. Once layng out the composition, I often return and fine tune the portraits for accuracy to the person's actual likness. The husband, and even the cat, will recieve similar treatment.

Alot of work on the Brown though it may not appear so. The Bear is done and the Yosemite Valley is taking shape. Sacramento magazine is the principal source of the magazine shreds.

I am begining the background of Brown's collage. I sketched the California bear on a sheet of paper, then drew a grid on top of it to transfer an enlarged image to the collage workspace. The bear and the Yosemite Valley with El Capitan will form the main background elements of the work. Check my Shows page as there are revisions. Stay Tuned!

Ongoing modification of the mouth and eyes in order to improve the likness. Dark negative space wll be used to define Brown's white hair in a manner similar to the work "Order and Paradox" in on the portfolio page. All magazine paper is comming from Sacramento and Sactown magazines-appropriate to the subject.
